Women’s Masters

Join the thrill of Women Masters Rowing

We are a competitive team with a strong passion for racing. Our primary focus is on advanced training and competition, pushing each athlete to achieve their best performance on the water.

Masters row outdoors from spring through fall, typically April through early November, taking advantage of the full rowing season on the water. When colder weather arrives, training transitions indoors with erging (indoor rowing machines) at the Dammrich Rowing Center in Skokie, IL. This balance of seasonal training ensures athletes maintain endurance, strength, and technical sharpness year-round.

Women’s Masters team

Our team emphasizes technical proficiency, overall fitness, strength, and flexibility as the foundation of competitive rowing. While there are opportunities for all skill levels to participate, the focus is on building the strongest boat line-ups possible across different age groups to represent us at races. Each rower is encouraged to contribute their skills while striving to improve and grow alongside their teammates.

We believe in supporting every racing boat with enthusiasm and pride, no matter the event or outcome. At the same time, we make it a priority to enjoy the process, because fun and camaraderie are essential parts of racing success and long-term team health. The shared experience of training and competing together is what makes the team truly rewarding.

Tryouts and Selection

Joining the masters team requires a tryout to ensure that each athlete is prepared to compete at the high standard set by the NSC coach. This process helps align individual readiness with the team’s competitive goals, giving athletes a clear picture of what is expected in terms of commitment and performance. It also provides the coaching staff with an opportunity to assess each rower’s strengths and potential fit within the team.

The selection process may take into account a variety of factors, including erg scores, technical proficiency on the water, coachability, and attitude both in training and competition. Leadership, sportsmanship, and the ability to attend practices regularly also play an important role, since consistent participation is key to building strong line-ups and maintaining team cohesion.
